Momentum Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Momentum collects when you visit our website, buy from us, or hold a Momentum account — and how we use, share, protect, and give you control over that information. It’s written to be read plainly, so you can understand what happens to your data without wading through jargon.
Momentum Electronics (Business Registration No. 320230084313), a business registered in Zambia, is the data controller responsible for your personal information under the laws of Zambia, including the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021. If you have any question about this policy or your data, you can reach us using the details in section 15.
1. Who We Are
Momentum Electronics operates the website at momentumelectronics.store and the products and services connected to it, including customer accounts, the warranty and verification system, and our customer support. When we say “Momentum,” “we,” or “us” in this policy, we mean Momentum Electronics. Our principal place of business is Bulangililo, Kitwe, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.
2. The Information We Collect
We collect the following kinds of personal information:
- Identity and contact details — your name, email address, phone number, and delivery and billing addresses.
- Account information — your username, a securely hashed password, your two-factor authentication settings, and login activity.
- Order and warranty information — the products you buy, your order history, delivery details, product serial numbers, and the warranty records tied to them.
- Payment information — payments are handled by our payment provider; we receive confirmation of payment and limited transaction details. We do not store your full mobile-money or card credentials.
- Communications — messages and support enquiries you send us, and your interactions with us over channels such as WhatsApp and email.
- Usage and device information — your IP address, browser and device type, and how you navigate and use our site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
- Customer insight information — information we derive about your activity and engagement to understand and improve your experience (see section 5).
3. How We Collect Your Information
We collect information in three main ways: directly from you, when you create an account, place an order, or contact us; automatically, as you use our site, through cookies, tracking technologies, and our server logs; and from our service providers, such as payment confirmations from our payment provider and advertising measurement from platforms like Meta.
4. Why We Use Your Information
We use your personal information for the following purposes, each supported by a lawful basis under the Data Protection Act, 2021 — such as performing our contract with you, your consent, our legitimate business interests, or compliance with a legal obligation:
- To process and fulfil your orders, deliver your products, and handle payments
- To create and manage your account and verify your logins
- To provide warranty cover, serial verification, claims, and customer support
- To protect our site and customers from fraud and abuse, through measures such as rate limiting, bot protection, and login monitoring
- To understand and improve your experience and our products (see section 5)
- To send you marketing and updates where you have agreed to receive them (see section 6)
- To show and measure advertising, including on platforms such as Meta (see section 7)
- To meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations, including those of the Zambia Revenue Authority
5. Customer Insights and Personalisation
To serve you better, Momentum analyses information about your purchases, account activity, and engagement to build an understanding of your relationship with us. This helps us recognise loyal customers, tailor the products and messages most relevant to you, and time our communications sensibly. This kind of analysis is sometimes called profiling.
These insights are used to improve your experience and our service. We do not use them to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you without a person involved in the decision. You can object to this kind of processing at any time — see section 12.
6. Marketing Communications
Where you have agreed, we may send you updates, offers, and product news by email or by messaging channels such as WhatsApp. Every marketing message includes a way to opt out, and you can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not affect the essential messages we need to send you about your orders, your account, or your warranty.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep it working, remember your session and cart, understand how the site is used, and support advertising. In particular, we use the Meta pixel to measure and target advertising on Facebook and Instagram, and we may use analytics tools to understand how the site is used.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
8. Who We Share Your Information With
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers and parties needed to run our business, and each may use it only for the purposes we specify:
- Our payment provider — to process your payments
- Our email and messaging providers — to send transactional messages and, where you’ve agreed, marketing
- Delivery and courier partners — to deliver your orders
- Advertising and analytics partners, such as Meta — for advertising and measurement
- Business and automation tools that help us run the store and communicate with customers
- Authorities and professional advisers — where required by law, including the Zambia Revenue Authority, or to protect our rights
9. Transfers Outside Zambia
Some of our providers — such as Meta and our email provider — process data on servers outside Zambia. Where your information is transferred outside the country, we take steps to keep it protected and to ensure such transfers are handled in line with the Data Protection Act, 2021.
10. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law. Order, warranty, and accounting records are kept for the periods required by Zambian tax and company law; account information is kept while your account remains active; and your marketing preferences are kept until you change them.
11. How We Protect Your Information
We take the security of your data seriously. Passwords are stored in hashed form, accounts can be protected with two-factor authentication, and our systems use access controls, rate limiting, and monitoring to guard against unauthorised access and abuse. No system can be perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly if something goes wrong.
12. Your Rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2021, you have rights over your personal information. You can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- Ask us to delete your information, where there is no overriding reason for us to keep it
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing — including profiling and marketing
- Withdraw your consent where we rely on it
- Ask for a copy of certain information in a portable form
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 15. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Zambia if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.
13. Children’s Privacy
Momentum’s products and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, to reflect changes in our services, providers, or legal obligations. The current version is always published here and applies from its publication date, shown as the “Last Updated” date at the foot of this page.
15. Contact Us and Complaints
For any privacy question, to exercise your rights, or to raise a concern about your data, contact Momentum at support@momentumelectronics.store, or by post at the address in section 1.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, the authority responsible for data protection in Zambia.
